TimeGuessr vs WhenTaken
These two are the near pair. Both show a real photograph and ask where and when. The points, the photo span, and the company behind them are not the same. WhenTaken is a Teuteuf game. TimeGuessr is TIMEGUESSR LIMITED.

Same question, different scoreboard
WhenTaken’s own pages (one publisher source) describe photographs from 1860 through 2026, five rounds, 1,000 points a round, 5,000 in total. TimeGuessr’s share line is out of 50,000, with 10,000 available on a round. A “good” number on one board is meaningless on the other.
Both dailies opened without an account when I read them. Both show ads on the free layer and sell a way to remove them. WhenTaken calls that a pass. TimeGuessr calls it Pro. I am not copying either price into a dollar figure.

Which one I would open
I would open TimeGuessr when I want the daily everyone else is posting scores for. I would open WhenTaken when I want a second photo-and-year set the same day. I do not have a played sample large enough to call one more accurate.
Questions people ask
Are TimeGuessr and WhenTaken the same game?
No. Both guess a photo’s place and year in five rounds. The score caps and the companies differ.
Which is free?
Both dailies open without an account and both show ads. Paid options remove ads. I am not quoting those prices.
Who makes WhenTaken?
Teuteuf, the studio behind Worldle and WhereTaken.
